

From May 11 to 13, The Fourth Environmental Expo Forum will take place in Mérida, which seeks to promote sustainability and environmnetal responsibility among the local private sector.
The event, to be held at the Siglo XXI Convention Center, will bring together more than 100 companies of different products and there will be several conferences with diverse information on the environmental issue.
The Expo seeks to promote sustainability, environmental consciousness, attract sponsors, advertise associations of organic products, boost education among the civil society organizations and young entrepreneurs.
It is Organized by the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Canaco Servytur) of Mérida, and the State Secretariat of Urban Development and Environment (Seduma).
It is expected that more than 20,000 people will attend, including students, academics, producers and public in general.
It will be possible to listen to prominent speakers, participate in training courses and panel discussions. Also, important documentary films will be screened, such as: “An Inconvenient Truth 2“, presented by Al Gore, former vice president of the United States and Peace Nobel Prize winner.
In this edition, the Secretariat of Research, Innovation and Higher Education will bring attractions such as a mariposario (butterfly farm), projection of videos in the planetary dome and an interesting conference on the Chicxulub Crater.
Environmental awareness will be also promoted in 1,500 students of elementary, secondary and high school levels with the participation of the State Ministry of Public Education (SEP).
Within the framework of this Expo, the conference “Management programs to improve air quality (ProAire) of Yucatan”, will be presented by the Q.F.B. Martha García-Rivas Palmeros, and merit recognitions will be awarded to the Sustainable Yucatan Environmental Initiative 2018.
Michel Salum Francis, president of the Steering Committee of the Canaco Mérida, said that in recent decades, environmental care has become a priority in local, regional, national and international agendas and within public policies to stop the deterioration of natural resources, which impact our lives in general.
“Today more than ever, we have the obligation to promote actions that can lead us to have a healthier planet” said the president of the business organization.
