On April this year, the Chamber of Representatives in Mexico approved the Law on the Rights of Users of Guide Dogs and Service Animals, which allows people with visual disabilities to access public and private spaces nationwide, accompanied by their trained animals.
Adela Moisés, in charge of Public Relations at the Holiday Inn Merida hotel, said in an interview for La Jornada Maya, that the hotel has allowed access to animals of this type for years, and they have facilities adapted to accommodate the visually impared and the disabled in the most comfortable and effective way possible.
“The policy of the hotel is to be Pet Friendly when it comes to cases of people with visual disability, the dogs are welcomed inside the accommodations” she said. Besides, access is allowed to people with their dogs at La Arboleda Bistro & Grill restaurant , located inside the hotel premises.
When it comes to lodging, people with “guide dogs” are allowed to stay in the rooms with their animals, as in the case of those who suffer from autism that sometimes need a dog for emotional support. In both cases, you need the document or official letter that certifies dogs as trained for such purpose.
“These animals are complementary for the person, the dog “sees”for them, and in case of autism, the dog provides emotional stability,” said Adela Moisés, adding that at the Holiday Inn this policy has prevailed for several years and the facilities are totally adapted.
The Holiday Inn has adequate spaces to accommodate people with disabilities, the hotel feature three special rooms. These rooms have a bathroom adapted to your needs and beds at low levels. In addition, the hotel has ramps for wheelchairs, and those established by law exclusive parking spaces, described Adela.
She also explained that the hotel seeks to treat people with disabilities in a normal way. “These people is treated just like any other guest, another client, but of course, if a client with a disability asks for some facility due to their condition, it will be facilitated”, said the Public Relations manager.
The recent law to support people who need service animals, mentions that in the tourism sector people with disabilities and their trained dogs will have access not only to hotels, but to recreational centers, spas, water parks, zoos, beaches, among others tourist places.
