Valladolid residents say that the trees in the parks are drying up little by little and these places are running out of shade, so it is urgent that the municipal authorities determine the causes and find a solution to the problem.
Last year, at least three large trees, approximmatelly 40 feet tall, were cut from Centro’s main park, because they allegedly represented a danger to people. Months ago, a branch broke and two women, mother and daughter, resulted injured.
Then, the cutting of another tree located a few meters away from the first one was ordered, but the Department of Ecology started a reforestation program in the park and other trees were planted, so that in a few years they would be as leafy as those that were cut down.
For the same reason, another tree was cut in the park of the neighborhood of San Juan, some of its branches had already fallen. Days later, came the turn of two more trees that stood for decades in the atrium of the former convent of San Bernardino de Siena, which gave shade to those who came to the place to sit and enjoy the fresh air and the majestic view of the historic building.
Not far from there, but in the back of the ex-convent, two other trees are drying out, and since their branches could also fall and injure someone, locals have already asked Valladolid municipal authorities for their prompt intervention.
