Tourism flow goes up in Valladolid

The tourist flow in the city has increased by at least 10%.

“As a consequence of cold weather in several countries in Europe, as well as in the northern United States and Canada, tourism activity has increased by at least 10%, for the benefit of service providers, including lodging centers and restaurants”, said Noé Rodríguez Cervera, Secretary of the Association of Hotels and Hostels of Valladolid.

“During a tour of the city center, the increase in the tourist flow is noticeable, a good number of travelers can be seen walking through the Historic Center, buying handicrafts in one of the businesses or hanging out in the main park. Same thing at night, a large number of visitors can be observed walking through the city, enjoying the “video mapping” show, dinning at restaurants, etc.”, Rodríguez Cervera said.

“Hostels in downtown Valladolid are the most requested, because they are more affordable and they suit the needs of certain type of traveler. But hotels also maintain a regular occupation”, he added

Rodríguez stated that there has been a slight increase in the tourist flow, in his hotel, located on Calle 39, as he maintains an occupation of 60%, although he clarified that there are other lodging centers on 50%.

“Considering that the general average of occupation in past years was 40%, that’s why we are talking about an increased of 10 percent,” he said.

He added that many tourists from countries such as Switzerland, Austria, Russia, Canada and the United States leave their places of origin because it is snowing, and they try to reach tropical and hot places, and his region of Mexico is one of the options they prefer.

“Another important factor to consider is the fact that the peso-dollar exchange rate makes Yucatan a very affordable destination for Americans, Canadians and Europeans. And on the other hand, our state offers them safety, good service and unique tourist products, ” the Secretary of the Association of Hotels and Hostels of Valladolid concluded.
