Given the positive outlook for the holiday period of Easter, which began on March 24 and concludes on April 9, entrepreneurs in the trade sectors , services and tourism foresee a spill of 1.15 billion pesos, which would represent 5% more than what was achieved during the same period in 2017.

The president of the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism (CANACO SERVYTUR) of Mérida, Michel Salum Francis, said that as every year, the greatest concentration of tourists, local, regional and foreign, will be recorded in the Yucatan coast, mainly in Progreso, favorite destination for those who seek to enjoy sun, sand and sea.

“During the next two weeks large concentrations of travelers will be seen in the state capital, as well as in the main tourist destinations of the Yucatan, such as beaches, Magic Towns, colonial cities, archaeological sites, ecotourism sites, cenotes, among others, a large number of visitors have chosen Yucatan to spend their vacation during the Easter period” he said.

Salum Francis emphasized that, according to service providers, since last Friday March 23, the flights of the different commercial airlines that arrived at the Mérida airport, mainly from Mexico City, arrived at 100% capacity, a situation that was maintained during Saturday 24 and Sunday 25.

Also, he said, members of the hotel industry have reported that the occupation for this period will be between 80 and 90%, with a possible 100%, during the weekend.

National tourists are coming from Tabasco, Chiapas, Campeche, Veracruz, Mexico City and Estado de México, among other states, to spend their vacations in the state.
