

Specialists in Forensic Medicine of the State Prosecutor General’s Office (FGE) report that the person found dead on a beach located east of the port of Progreso on Jan. 30, has been identified as Mr. Gilberto Daniel Sánchez Ortega, age 40, whose cause of death was asphyxiation caused by submersion.
After legally raising the corpse, staff of the Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO) of the Institute of Forensic Sciences of the FGE performed the corresponding autopsy protocol that confirmed the cause of death.
Likewise, it was corroborated that the body of Mr. Sánchez Ortega did not present traces of violence; the Office of the Public Prosecutor closed the investigation folder on this case.
After these events, the body was identified by the wife of the deceased; legal delivery of the body to the family was made at the Semefo facility.
