PROGRESO, Yucatán.- One week ago, on Tuesday Jan. 30, the cruiser “Fantasy” arrived in Progreso under terrible weather conditions, with strong winds from the North and swell caused by the arrival of cold front 25.
As the cruise moored early in the morning, passengers descended to the port, and a fair number of tourists could be observed walking along the “malecón“, under cloudy skies.
At that time there was a mixture of international and national tourism touring the main streets and the beach.
Many took off their shoes to feel the fresh sand, as a means for relaxation. However some other were wearing warm clothing, and towels around their necks. Some local businesses were doing more or less fine when the drizzle scared the visitors away, and most of them went back to the boat.
The Fantasy arrived with 2,231 passengers and 1,006 crew members at 6:30 am from Mobile, Alabama; It left at 6:00 pm to Cozumel.
During the month of February the arrival of several cruise ships is expected and if the weather conditions improve, travelers will leave a positive economic impact for the residents of the port of Progreso.
