17 men die of prostate cancer every day in Mexico

The Federal Delegation of the Institute of Security and Social Services of State Workers in Aguascalientes, led by Mr. Juan Fernando Palomino Topete, presided the Health Fair at the offices of the Delegation of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) ), as part of the February campaign, which is Men’s Health Month.

During the event, the health personnel of the ISSSTE commented usually men are less likely to attend regular medical examinations than women, and that is why the Institue promotes this strategy of approaching health services to men’s working places, as an attempt to teach the culture of prevention in this sector of the population.

The Medical Subdelegate of the Issste, Dr. Jorge Morales Reyes, stressed that during the Men’s Health Month February campaign, the Institute has been conducting rapid prostate antigen tests. In addition, testicular cancer tests were also implemented, as this condition is one of the most common among the Mexican male population from 15 to 35 years of age and if detected on time, this type of testicular cancer is 100% curable.

Currently in Mexico, 17 men die every day for prostate cancer: This campaign seeks to promote a great national movement in all sectors of society, create a culture of prevention and self-care in men, in order to have a longer and better life.

According to Palomino Topete, the number of deaths from prostate cancer in men, is much greater than the number of fatal cervical or breast cancer cases in women.  And he points out that if any anomaly is detected, the patient needs to go to see a doctor immediately.
