Lorena Ochoa prepares a golf tournament in Mérida next year, after the cancellation of the Golf Tournament in Mexico.

MÉRIDA, Yucatán.- According to Notimex, Mexican golfer Lorena Ochoa, —once number one of  the world — regrets the lack of financial support from public and private institutions, for the golf tournament in Mexico bearing her name which got cancelled.

In the last 10 years that the tournament was organized, the financial issue was difficult. “It was almost an inhuman effort in every way to maintain it. The lack of support from the LPGA and the fact that in recent years there was not a live broadcast on television”. Lorena Ochoa mentioned.

She recalled that last year for the tenth anniversary of the tournament, she had the opportunity to play her Hall of Fame friends, Juli Inkster, Annika Sorenstam and Se Ri Pak.

“It was amazing to play before my Mexican fans, so we decided to leave it, with this beautiful memory” shared Ochoa, who participated in the announcement of the tournament Pro-Am, at Club Campestre Churubusco, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Mexican Professional Golf Association (IGPM).

Ochoa, who entered the World Golf Hall of Fame last summer, mentioned that there is the possibility of a tournament in Mérida, Yucatán.

She added that everything will be evaluated to be done by 2019, it can even be for men and women or a ladies-only tournament, but smaller, as some important exhibition, with the invitation to Mexican professionals.
