On Friday January 19, at 8 p.m., the mezzo soprano Elina Garanča gave a spectacular singing exhibition at Teatro José Peón Contreras in Mérida, Yucatán.
Garanča said she was happy to be back in Mexico and particularly in the southeast of the country, a region she was visiting for the first time.
She also stated that, for a long time, she looked forward to perform at the oldest and most beautiful theater in Mérida, named after José Peón Contreras, immortal poet, novelist, dramatist, essayist, physician, and politician native of Yucatán,
She had the desire to be face to face with the Yucatecan public, because “it is not the same to receive messages on Facebook from the fans, than to be able to sing in front of them”.
The outstanding and famous performer offered for the first time a recital in Mérida, in which she was accompanied by the Yucatan Symphony Orchestra that was under the baton of Constantine Orbelian.
“The concert included a repertoire that demanded the maximum capacity of the voice”, declared the artist, since she knows that it was the first occasion that the majority of the audience was listening to her singing live, and she wanted to show her vocal abilities at their best.
Garanča’s performance at the Peón Contreras theater was probably one of the most outstanding feature presentations in the history of this theater and the city of Mérida, according to the testimony of some of the musicians members of the Yucatan Symphony Orchestra.
