MÉRIDA, Yucatán.- The demolition of the building that used to belong to the former Yucatecan bottling company Sidra Pino, that represents a major risk to residents and pedestrians, has not been done yet, due to the fact that this building, along with other old properties in the downtown area, need authorization of the National Institute of Anthropology and History INAH (Insitituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia), for its demolition, since most of these estates are considered historic monuments, despite their bad conditions.
However, it was known that the paperwork needed to carry out the demolition of the Sidra Pino building, located on 63rd Street, was not successfully completed and approved by the corresponding authorities.

Last year, Mérida’s Director of Urban Development, Aref Karam Espósitos, said that soon it would be known how the owners were going to demolish the parts of the buildings that are about to collapse, jeopardizing the lives of neighbors and pedestrians in the area. But the owers claim that they are still waiting for INAH’s approval
Karam Espósitos, also said that both the City Council and the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) are conducting the legal procedures to respect the rules of the historical heritage of the city without putting in risk the integrity of the citizens of Merida in order to resolve this issue.
