New plan seeks to take advantage and boost Yucatán’s academic offer.
On Wednesday December 13, Yucatán’s secretariats of Tourism Development (Sefotur) and Research, Innovation and Higher Education (Siies), launched a tactical plan to bring international student tourism through a strategy where the main attractions are the postgraduate courses offered by public and private universities, the cultural offer, good public safety and the available lodgement for students.
These actions seek to capture this segment with the global communication campaign “Study in Yucatan”, the creation of the page www.yucatan.travel/estudiaenyucatan, which features complete information about the higher and continuing education offer; participation in national and international fairs specialized in academic tourism.
It is important to remark that this initiative seeks to attract international students to reinforce their educational development (the objective is not to attract “spring breakers” or young travelers with recreational purposes).
The total investment for the advertising of this project is $2 million pesos ($100,000 USD) that already were used to develop and manage social network platforms and the creation of an observatory of tourism activity to generate information statistics in order to obtain real and reliable information.
The head of the Sefotur, Secretary Saúl Ancona Salazar, assured that this project has become a reality thanks to the high level and excellent quality of the educational services and universities that the state of Yucatan boasts.
