It is necessary that the government promote the realization of cultural activities in rural communities…
MERIDA – According to Carlos García García, member of the National Academic Committee of Rural Tourism, “beyond sun and beach tourism, Yucatan has enormous potential in rural tourism; the training of villagers is the key for this activity to advance, so that the people will know how to profit from this activity without harming the environment”.
Carlos García García was interviewed by Diario de Yucatán at the inauguration of the 4th National Congress of Rural Tourism, which this week is taking place in the central building of the Autonomous University of Yucatan (Uady). The expert said that more than being intermediaries, villagers should share their life, culture, festivals and traditions with the visitors.
“There is an enormous potential for the communities to develop their capacities over the next 50 years,” said the academic.
In a decade, rural tourism can be defined as an alternative to sun and beach so that national visitors know the local culture, one of the great strengths of the region, he said.
The symposium “Landscape and Rural Tourism” is organized by the Postgraduate College of the Cordoba campus and will gather 17 papers.
