Yucatan citrus producers close deals with Europe and the USA

MERIDA – The entrepreneur said that right now they are paying $1,800 pesos per ton of sweet orange, $1,991 pesos per ton of grapefruit, $1,200 pesos for sour orange and the purchase of mandarins is still to begin.

He added that they are already closing negotiations with European and US buyers in addition to the national market for the purchase of sweet orange concentrate, grapefruit, sour orange and soon even tangerine.

He explained that the Akil juice factory works 2 shifts with 120 employees, and it may be possible that in December the plant will start working 3 shifts due to the workload and the demand for concentrated citrus juices.

He pointed out that this was a good season of citrus production, and it is estimated that the state will have produced 250 thousand to 300 thousand tons, sufficient for the supply of the entity.

Finally, Cetina García stressed that those who still are about to harvest run the risk of losing some crops because of the low temperatures and the greater risk if hail is coming.
