CANCUN — In a few days two new companies will begin to provide the crossing service between Cancún and Isla Mujeres, so that the monopoly that Ultramar has maintained for years on that route will finally come to an end.

The announcement was made by the director of the Port Administration of Quintana Roo (Apiqroo), Alicia Ricalde Magaña.

“Two transportation service providers are going to enter Isla Mujeres, Marinsa and Naveganto, these two companies must start operations as of December 1,” said the official.

“With this, the monopoly that currently exists is broken,” Ricalde added. “As in Cozumel, three companies will now provide this transportation service.”

Alicia Ricalde said that each of the companies will start operations with three boats for the crossings. The times of the crossings will be scheduled in order to avoid unfair competition between them.
