The reconstruction of the bridge located at the intersection of the highway to Progreso and Merida’s Periferico begins on Nov. 30th….
MERIDA – On Thursday November 30 will begin the improvement project on the “Progreso bridge”, so that nearby streets will be closed and a traffic operation will be established in the area.
Due to the number of vehicles that transit at that point, about 100,000, traffic chaos is forecasted.
The work will be to modernize the road, which due to the traffic capacity and urban growth in the area has already become obsolete.
The delegate of the Communication and Transportation Secretariat (SCT) in Yucatan, Jorge Montaño Michael, reported that the operation to cut the vehicle circulation will begin on Tuesday Nov. 29.
It is projected that the work will last about 10 months and initially 40 million pesos will be invested, although the total cost will be 200 million pesos.
The road will be extended to have four lanes. There will be ways of merging to the Mérida highway to Progreso towards the Periférico and the Francisco de Montejo subdivision.
That point is one of the most complicated to drive due to the number of vehicles that transit in that area and because of the narrowness of the street, which causes many accidents.
“When the works of the Progreso bridge are completed, this will be one of the most modern roads and will be very useful for the citizens,” said the official of the SCT.
Starting next Thursday Nov. 30 there will be closures of roads in the area for the modernization of the bridge.
