Rail improvements including Mérida-Valladolid line will conclude in 2018

MERIDA — In the first quarter of 2018 the new rail freight center and the branch that will go from Poxilá to Huncumá will be ready, informed the Secretary of Economic Development (Sefoe) of the State Government.

At this moment the work is progressing according to schedule and both works have an investment of 260 million pesos.

The modernization of the rail lines corresponding to the Yucatan section are about to conclude. On the other hand, the works corresponding to Campeche are 50% complete, as well as the work in Tabasco.

Sefoe officials stressed that the railroad is a reality in Yucatan, and air, sea and land transportation has been advanced, allowing the entity to be among the best 10 in the country in competitiveness.

The state agency said that the Chiapas-Mayab railway modernization project has received financing of three billion pesos, and another three billion are needed for the works to finish in Campeche and Tabasco.

Likewise, it was announced that the modernization of the line from Mérida to Valladolid will be completed in the first quarter of 2018.
