MERIDA – While New York reports 11°C (51°F) and Toronto has 1°C (33°F) Merida is reporting 29°C (84°F), but an announcement from the National Meteorological Service (SMN) indicated that from this Wednesday November 22 the effects of the new cold front will begin to be felt. This will impact with considerable drops in temperatures that will last until Saturday November 25.

In the Yucatan peninsula the lowest temperature registered this week was in Oxkutzcab with 13°C (55°F) at dawn, and it is expected to get lower from today Wednesday to Friday, assures the National Water Commission (Conagua). In Merida the average temperature for this season is usually around 25°C (77°F) which many people would say is very comfortable for this time of year.
In Merida the Yucatecans are used to high temperatures all year long, so reaching less than 77°F is a truly cold environment for the most part of the inhabitants, but on the other hand it is very comfortable for the foreigners community, which is increasing in the whole peninsula.
Along with this cooler temperature, the region encompassing Veracruz, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche and Yucatan will experience some electrical storms, heavy rains, hailstorms and gusts with winds of more than 50 kilometers per hour (31 miles per hour) on the coasts of the Yucatan Peninsula.
It worth to mention that the lowest temperatures in Yucatan almost never go under 10°C (50°F).
