CANCUN — According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Southwest Airlines will be adding seasonal, nonstop flights from Pittsburgh International Airport to Cancun, Mexico, the airport announced last week.

Each Saturday from June 9 through Aug. 4, the airline will conduct a single flight to the popular vacation destination at 7:30 a.m.

The flight is Southwest’s first international route from Pittsburgh.

According to the Allegheny County Airport Authority, Southwest has 18 non-stop destinations — the most of any airline — from Pittsburgh, and its customers make up about 30 percent of all passengers.

“This is Southwest’s first scheduled international route from Pittsburgh and an indication of their ongoing success in this region,” said Christina Cassotis, the authority’s CEO.
