MERIDA — In January 2018 the mobile application for the emergency number 9-1-1 will operate in Yucatan, which will allow users to perform several actions in order to report emergencies and save lives; also it will feature a panic button.
In this regard, the delegate in Yucatan of the Ministry of the Interior (Segob), Rubén Valdez Ceh, mentioned that this app will allow the user to have information on Civil Protection bulletins, as well as having a record of the person who uses it and a panic button to request help.
He mentioned that this application already works in Mexico City, with an integrated seismic warning, so it is expected that in 2018 Yucatan can count on this service.
The official remarked that this application also allows having a better control of requests that reach 9-1-1, avoiding prank calls. In addition the official reported that until September, 9-1-1 recorded 88 million calls in Mexico, which shows a decrease of 4 percent in improper calls.
In the case of Yucatan, he mentioned that one million 600 thousand calls have been registered, and pointed out that the state has an average use of the emergency line, compared to other states such as Colima and Nuevo León, but also there are states such as Tabasco and Quintana Roo, where people do not call anymore.
The most reported emergencies are assaults, suspicion of crimes commission, family violence and accidents, as well as requests for ambulances, water leaks and poles about to collapse.
