Cemeteries of Merida receive “Dia de Muertos” visitors

Merida municipal authorities expect a large visitor influx on November 1st and 2nd to the cemeteries of the city….

MERIDA – The city authorities have been working in the 5 cemeteries of Merida and those of its 33 surrounding towns in the municipality, to keep them clean and in order, during visiting hours from 7:00 in the morning to 6:00 in the afternoon.

They reported that the Xoclán cemetery has 33 thousand vaults compared to the General Cemetery that has 27 thousand, since the space for the Xoclán is 20 hectares where 400 to 500 vaults are built per year.

To acquire a vault there are several modes: when a person dies, relatives have the right to acquire a vault for 3 to 15 years in rent that has a value of 5 thousand pesos, and in perpetuity, 7 thousand 500 pesos.
