CANCUN — Surveillance operations have been carried out to prevent the entry of underage individuals to Cancun’s nightclubs and discotheques, said the director of inspection, Eduardo Mariscal de la Selva.

Mariscal de la Selva indicated that thanks to this instruction of the municipal President, Remberto Estrada Barba, it has been possible to prevent more than 63 thousand minors from entering establishments not appropriate for their age.

Mariscal de la Selva said that the joint work done with citizens as well as with the companies that understand this need to protect youth has generated confidence and has been successful in the Supervision of nightclubs, bars, canteens, discotheques, and other establishments where adulthood is required for admission.

This strategy has avoided that minors, ranging from 14 to 17 years, enter these places where they have access to alcohol consumption. Also, parents are now fully aware of the actions of their children.

The municipal official said that to date they have had to close more than 30 establishments for accepting the entry of minors, and it was last weekend when the largest number of underage customers found in a nightclub was registered.

“An important point to highlight”, he said, “is the participation of the “Citizen Visors” (visores ciudadanos), which generates confidence both from the entrepreneurs themselves and from society in general, with the corresponding support of local authorities to continue with these strategies aimed at the development of a healthier community.”
