MERIDA — Organizers of the “MZ Tour: the cycling tour of Yucatan” presented details of this sports event, which will take place from October 12 to 15 and will distribute cash prizes of 180 thousand pesos. The event is expected to attract more than 250 recognized local, national and international athletes.
Among the athletes that have already confirmed participation are Héctor Rangel, 106-mile champion in Tucson 2016; Ignacio Prado, national time-trial champion and silver medalist at the Toronto Pan American Games 2015; Alfredo Santoyo, time-trial specialist; Cecilia Pérez, triathlete; María Inés Herrera and the brothers Francisco and Roberto Serrano, as well as a team from the National Commission on Physical Culture and Sport (Conade).
David Mier y Terán Cuevas, member of the Organizing Committee, announced this information accompanied by Juan Sosa Puerto, head of the Sports Institute (IDEY); Assis Cano Cetina, Human Development Director of Merida; Lorenzo Medina González, main sponsor; and Amado Hernández Coello, president of the Yucatan Cycling Association.
Mier y Terán said that the event will have the endorsement of the Mexican Cycling Federation and added that the original route to Celestún has been modified and now will be towards Mayapán, maintaining the distance of 90 kilometers.
He said that before the Sunday final circuit in Paseo de Montejo, a round will take place with sports and government authorities, in which the Governor of the State, Rolando Zapata Bello, is expected to be present.
At the same time, Medina González said that the event generates great expectation among those who practice or are fans of this discipline; he also invited the public to participate and anticipated that two bicycles will be raffled among the public at the end of the award ceremony.
