Filmmaker Ricardo Benet will lead cinema workshop in Merida

MERIDA — The City of Merida’s Directorate of Culture will stage a Cinematographic Creation Workshop to be given by the Mexican filmmaker Ricardo Benet, from November 6 to 17 at the Municipal Center of Entrepreneurs.

In presenting the call, the Deputy Director of Cultural Innovation, Valerie Amador Hurtado, highlighted that with the selected teams, participants will be able to work on all creative stages of their short films, from pre-production to filming.

Ricardo Benet observed that Mérida has potential as a film set and a lot of creative youth vocation in the art of cinema.

The call is directed to students or graduates of careers related to cinematography (communication, arts, administrative and social sciences, philosophy and letters), who have ventured into the audiovisual world and are over 18 years-old, living in Merida, Yucatan. “The workshop will be free for participants to have the opportunity to express what they want as artists,” he said.

The requirements to participate are: to form a team composed of four members; each team must send a proposal or idea of ​​a short film (fiction or documentary) that happens during the day and outdoors, described on 1 page (Word or Pdf file), calculating a screen duration of about 10 minutes. In this document the 4 members who make up the team must be mentioned.

Also, each team must send a demo of three minutes of previous audiovisual works. They have to own or obtain a laptop, HD camera and editing programs.

In total there will be nine theoretical afternoon practical sessions, from Monday to Friday from 5 pm to 9 pm. From November 6 to 16 will be held theoretical and practical sessions, outdoor shooting and production, and on Friday Nov. 17 is scheduled the presentation of the first cut of the work in progress.

The selection of the five winning projects will be the responsibility of filmmaker Benet and will choose the stories that show ease of production in two days, locations in Merida, preferential natural light and that contemplate a maximum of three characters.

The aspiring projects must be sent to cultura@mérida.gob.mx with a deadline of 3 p.m. October 23.

The results of the selected projects will be announced on Friday, October 27 through the social networks of MéridaesCultura and via telephone to the leaders of the winning teams.
