Centro sidewalk, facade and infrastructure repairs near completion

Saturday October 14 is the date scheduled for conclusion of the works around 59^th street between 60^th and 62^nd streets…

MERIDA – The director of the City Council’s Urban Development Department, César Bojórquez Zapata, reported about the progress on the repair works of the sidewalks on 59^th street between 60^th and 62^nd; these projects are included in the Merida Historic Center Maintenance Program, and demanded by the Merida Historic Center Trust, along with the facades refurbishment of 13 houses in that street (10 on the north side and 3 on the south side).

The work has been completed at night, after getting the approval from the National Anthropology and History Institute (INAH, in Spanish). The work hours were set to avoid any problem with the vehicle traffic on the street. By now, the repair work is 80% complete.

The south and north sections of the sidewalk are already finished. It only remains to conclude the west section, which is already under construction at nights; also wrapping up are the wheelchair and car access for the houses on that street and the general cleaning of the zone.

Bojórquez Zapata added that besides the repair of the sidewalks, his department has finished the study that will allow to repairs to infrastructure of electric, telephone  and water supply in Centro, the oldest area of the city.

The works will be supervised by the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), the Yucatan Drain and Drinking Water Board (JAPAY), Telmex and several cable providers. The works will be done on the first nine blocks of Downtown, the zone between 59^th  65^th, 58^th and 64^th streets.

All of this is part of the Merida Historic Center Permanent Maintenance Plan, just as the streets resurfacing works, the repair on the sidewalks, the refurbishment of the parks and the two times a week clearning of the Plaza Grande, bus stops and the Markets.
