SANTA ELENA, Yucatan — With a target of 120 thousand pets, the Yucatan Health Secretariat (SSY) will implement the National Anti-Rabies Vaccination Reinforcement Week of Dogs and Cats, from Sunday Sept. 24 to Saturday Sept. 30, in the city of Santa Elena.
The head of the unit, Jorge Eduardo Mendoza Mézquita, stressed that the objective is the prevention and control of the transmission of the disease from animals to humans, so the coverage sought is above 85% in the state, in compliance with NOM-011-SSA2-2011.

The opening ceremony will be in the esplanade of the municipality mentioned Sunday Sept. 24 at 10 am.
The official said that the strategy includes the installation of stalls for examinations and the house-to-house sweep to apply the rabies vaccine free of charge with the help of government and private institutions as well as organized community groups.
He revealed that SSY has conducted 1,558 sterilizations to dogs and cats in the territory, has provided comprehensive care to people who have been bitten and has applied 352,865 doses of this vaccine this year.
