Oil exploration and extraction activities definitively canceled in Yucatan

MERIDA — Governor Rolando Zapata Bello met with representatives of the fishing sector of the state to inform that the National Hydrocarbons Commission (CNH) decided to modify the international tender 2.4 to exclude the Yucatán Platform from the exploration of hydrocarbons.

During the meeting, held on Thursday September 28, the governor said that in the framework of the 48th extraordinary session of the governing body of the CNH, the five commissioners that form the group voted unanimously to suppress the the Yucatan platform, contractual area number 30,  per request of the Secretariat of Energy (Sener).

The president of the Federation of Cooperative Fishing Societies of the Center and West areas of the State, José Luis Carrillo Galaz, stressed the importance of this decision, which guarantees an orderly and sustainable development of the fishing industry in the state of Yucatan, a decision that will have positive economic, social and environmental repercussions.

The meeting with the governor was attended by presidents of the nautical committees of Progreso, Chelem, Chicxulub and Chuburná Puerto, Dzilam de Bravo, Yobaín, Chabihau, Telchac Puerto, San Crisanto, San Felipe, El Cuyo, Sisal, Celestún, Las Coloradas and San Felipe, as well as by the General Government Secretary, Roberto Rodríguez Asaf; Research, Innovation and Education Secretary, Raúl Godoy Montañez, and Urban Development and Environment Secretary, Eduardo Batllori Sampedro.

The meeting was also attended by the commissioner of Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture of the state, José Castillo Ruz; the delegate of the National Fisheries Commission (Conapesca) Luis Ernesto Martínez Ordaz; the General Coordinator of Advisers of the state administration, Eric Rubio Barthell, and the Under-Secretary of Government and Political Development, Gaspar Quintal Parra.
