CANCUN — With the objective of contributing to the strengthening of the Urban Development Plan in Cancun, AGUAKAN started the introduction of a drinking water network in Polígono 7 South, a large-scale project carried out in coordination with the Municipal Secretariat of Public Works and Services. In this project the water concessionaire will invest $81.5 million pesos to benefit 291,339 inhabitants.
For the joint interest with the developers to detonate that area’s development, 13.6 kilometers of ductile iron pipe will be placed to run from catchment area to the heighentrance of the International Airport of Cancun and will cover the entire margin of the Huayacan avenue until the junction from the road to Merida.
The first stage involves an investment of $57 million pesos for the introduction of more than 9 kilometers of pipe using the open-pit technique, with a maximum depth of three meters, which will help maintain a much more efficient distribution of water.
Preliminary work on the first stage has just begun and is expected to be completed in the first two months of 2018.
“In Benito Juárez we have been able to provide 100% coverage in drinking water for a few years. The next step is to increase the length of the network, with the aim of increasing our distribution capacity for the benefit of our current customers and being prepared for the constant demographic growth of the municipality,” said Lourdes Salgado, communication coordinator of AGUAKAN.
With this project, the concessionaire guarantees the coverage of drinking water for new urban facilities in a key location such as Cancun, which has tripled its population in the last 30 years and where they have secured modern infrastructure.
