Dutch expat dies in fall in Yucatan cave

The 60-year-old woman fell while recording a video in a 40-meter deep cave….

AKIL — Agents from the Public Security Secretariat and the Attorney General Office faced obstacles recovering the body of a woman identified as Alma Patricia Medina García, who is reported dead after falling inside a very deep cave named “El Santuario” in the town of Akil.

In the efforts of taking her body back have participated the municipal and state police departments, along with the firemen department and the medical team of the Public Health Secretariat. The tragic incident happened on the Akil-Xohuayán y Kancab highway.

According to information obtained by the Diario de Yucatán, Medina García was recording a video with her three grandsons, but she forgot to watch her step and by accident she fell into the cave, which has a deep of 40 meters. Unfortunately the woman died almost immediately.

It was reported that the woman was from the Netherlands and she was married with a unidentified man from the town of Akil, but they used to live together in Merida.

It was the second time that she was visiting the cave due to her attraction to the natural majesty of the place.
