Ernesto Herrera Novelo, head of the Secretariat of Economic Development (SEFOE), told representatives from Yucatan, Campeche and Quintana Roo that the industry field in the Yucatan Peninsula has shown growth rates above the country’s average of 7.5 percent, according to El Debate newspaper.
Within the framework of the “Peninsular Industrial Projection: Growth Challenges”, organized by the National Chamber of Transformation Industries (CANACINTRA), Herrera Novelo presented financial figures of the state which endorsed it as a leader with a national growth of 10.9 percent. “In not more than four years, [Yucatán] went from being in the 30th national position, to the 1st place with double-digit growth in the state,” he mentioned in front of the National President of CANACINTRA, Enrique Guillén Mondragón.
Likewise, Herrera Novelo assured that the state’s reindustrialization has achieved a significant foreign interest, and that it has generated more than 60 thousand direct [and indirect] jobs. “Around 70 billion pesos are being directly invested in Yucatan, and such thing is being generated by the industry field. We need to integrate ourselves more so that there is a balance in the whole area; diversifying the economy while thinking in a regional way,” he expressed.
One of the issues discussed at the meeting was the importance of natural gas in the sector. On this, Herrera Novelo stated that, in addition to being environmentally-friendly, its usage reduces production costs and allows for greater competitiveness.
