Short-circuit causes evacuation of Merida airport

According to El Diario de Yucatán, on Sunday July 16, Mérida’s international airport, “Manuel Crescencio Rejón”, had a 20-minute close down due to fire alarms going off because of a short-circuit in the air conditioning system.

The electrical failure generated smoke that went directly to the air ducts, which caused concern, uneasiness, and even panic among people inside the airport.  The event caused passengers, visitors and personnel to evacuate the building.

The airport put into work a contingencies protocol, while security personnel supported the building’s evacuation. All work and operations were stopped for 20 minutes, in which the airport’s fire department addressed the problem and discharged the smoke.
