PUERTO MORELOS, Q. Roo – “As Puerto Morelos was integrated into the national program called “Pueblo con Encanto” (Enchanting Town), many different actions will be carried out by municipal authorities to promote it along with the Riviera Maya worldwide”, stated Mayor Laura Fernández Piña.
She continued: “Our lovely town will live a success, as Puerto Morelos is the place that offers tranquility to all its visitors and keeps a sustained growth within the sustainability concept. We have proved what our Charming Town is doing and is approached by the sustainable tourism, as part of the 2016-2018 Municipal Development Plan”.
Currently, 5,400 hotel rooms are offered, and it is expected an important growth up to 8,000 in a short time. Puerto Morelos features 18 kilometers of coastline in front of the largest reef in America, as well as the “Cenotes” Route, historic communities such as “Leona Vicario” and “Central Vallarta” and an exquisite gastronomy offering local, national and international dishes.
Laura Fernandez pointed out that Puerto Morelos keeps its charming and original essence as a tourist destination of the Mexican Caribbean, but now it’s being the gateway to the Riviera Maya that allows it to join new promotional projects that maintain a great number of hotel occupancy throughout the year.
Meanwhile, The Riviera Maya’s director of Trust on Tourism promotion (Fideicomiso de Promoción Turística de la Riviera Maya, FPTRM), Dario Flota Ocampo, explained: “Despite the fact that the State Tourism Promotion Council will announce an intense campaign in the coming days, Puerto Morelos will take its place”.
