Mérida hotel sector booms with 21 new licenses approved

According to SIPSE, Merida’s Urban Development Bureau announced that it has already authorized 21, from the 29 sought, hotel construction licenses for 2017. From these numbers, 15 are new establishments that -combined- will create 1,579 rooms, and six hotels will revamp their buildings; thus, incorporating 332 new rooms.

As stated by Aref Karam Espósitos, the agency’s titular, eight hotels have already obtained their land-use licenses or are in the process of building permits. Out of the 29 hotels in process of authorization, 56% are in the Historical Monuments area (Centro and Paseo Montejo), 15% in cultural heritage areas, 26% in the north and peripheral zones of the city, and the remaining 3% near Mérida’s International Airport.

In addition, four of these hotels have already started operations. Likewise, it is worth mentioning that a new hotel has been confirmed to open its doors to the public in the beginning of 2018 in Prolongación Montejo, by the hotel company Grupo Posadas, which is one of the biggest hotel investors in Yucatán. Its name will be “Hotel Fiesta Inn Express Merida Montejo”. It will have 140 rooms and will generate around 600 new jobs.
