No surprise that “staycations” are actually on the rise as people explore their own backyards and with Canada celebrating its 150th birthday, there are going to be all kinds of funky events taking place nationwide. The Lonely Planet as well as the New York Times named Canada its top travel destination for 2017, citing it as “a world unto itself, with cosmopolitan cities, barely explored natural wonders and everything in between.”

Vacationers aren’t as predictable as they used to be. The world offers a more diverse and accessible travel market with previous niches becoming the norm, and those hard-to-reach places becoming reachable. One of the biggest changes is who we go on holiday with — ourselves. Yup, we’re ditching our friends and significant others, especially if you’re a woman. We’re also combining our leisure time with business travel, expecting airports to be destinations and heading to the arctic.

According to a recent survey, the top three locations for 2017 for Canadians are Canada (53 per cent), the U.S. (39 per cent) and Europe (32 per cent). The Caribbean took fourth place while Australia and Mexico tied for fifth.

According to travel site Skyscanner, Sept. 19, 2017 is predicted to be the best time to book cheap flights in 2017 with Dec. 17 when airline tickets will be at their highest price, so get planning and packing.
