CANCUN — Tropical Storm ‘Cindy’, which is located 520 kilometers northeast of the Yucatan Peninsula, has caused heavy to pouring rains in Quintana Roo state.
In Cancún, precipitation began Monday morning, and it has not stopped raining. It has been so frequent and intense that it caused beaches to close to tourism and fishing activities.
“However, it has not gone more than that, there is no concern; it is not a hurricane or anything. As we have mentioned, all the things we have done have been preventive,” said Luis Lomeli, Director of Civil Protection in Cancun.
Authorities decided to put into operation the ‘Storm Plan’. Thus, fire department agents have executed cleaning activities in more than 16 neighborhoods to avoid waterlogging. For instance, in another tourist destination, “Solidaridad” in Quintana Roo, due to the non-stop raining, two shelters were opened.
The National Water Commission reported that heavy to pouring rains will continue in Yucatan, Campeche and Quintana Roo on Wednesday due to the aforementioned storm. Cindy will cause overcast conditions and storms in the Yucatan Peninsula. Such areas will involve lightning, strong gusts of wind, hailstorms, turbulence, whirlwinds or tornados.
Rain is also expected on Thursday due to the arrival of a new tropical wave.
