After the violent events in Cancun this week, the Yucatan Public Security Ministry (SSP) has increased surveillance at the points of entry to the city of Merida.
Since Tuesday night, the inspections of vehicles are exhaustive in the different checkpoints the police have installed, and it has even been arranged that the SSP Canine Police participate in an uninterrupted way in order to avoid the introduction into Yucatan State of arms, explosives and drugs.
This also seeks to avoid the “cockroach” effect of fleeing criminals after the acts perpetrated that included the killing of one police officer and wounding of three others in the neighboring state of Quintana Roo.
As reported in The Yucatan Times and other media, a police officer was slain in Cancun Tuesday, after the outbreak of violence in that tourist resort for several weeks.
Reviews include cargo trucks, vans, and automobiles with out-of-state and local plates.
The inspections are also for vehicles that are leaving the city of Merida.
Police officers, after completing the reviews, collect data from the vehicles as well as from the passengers.
Even during the inspection operations, the plates of the cars are verified in the Platform System Mexico to ensure that they do not have any type of report pending.
