CANCUN — A human head was found Saturday morning March 25 on a street in the urban center of Cancun, which has been shaken by various acts of violence in recent weeks.
According to a local police report, the head was found near a bank branch on a busy avenue in Cancun and next to it was a threating message attributed to organized crime. Elements of the medical service removed the head, which is believed to belong to a middle-aged man, without the rest of the body found.
According to estimates by the local press, this would be the violent death number 28 that is recorded in the urban area of the tourist destination so far this year.

Cancun is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Mexican Riviera, visited mainly by American, Canadian and European tourists, and where until now it has managed to contain the violence generated in other parts of the country by organized crime.
In January, the area suffered an unusual escalation of violence, which included a shoot-out at a crowded electronic music festival in Playa del Carmen where six people died, including foreigners. A day later, a spectacular assault against the state prosecutor’s office and police in the urban area of Cancun left one police officer and three attackers dead.
