The director of the Faculty of Architecture of the Autonomous University of Yucatan (UADY), Alfredo Alonzo Aguilar, said that a city like Mérida should be democratized to expand open spaces, since, he explained, a city should not be hostage to automobiles.
The specialist emphasized that the activities carried out by the Ayuntamiento of Mérida show that citizens want more spaces to walk, to make the city their own and to take ownership of these spaces.
“A city must grow, not only for motor vehicles, not only for autos, but also for pedestrians, for bicycle riders, because the citizens are the owners of these spaces and not motorized vehicles,” he said.
