Jose Eduardo Javier de la Cruz, who was reported missing on Saturday February 18, was found dead in the early morning hours of Wednesday February 22, about 500 meters from the Mérida – Progreso highway.
The young man was last seen alive under the “Paraíso” bridge on the Merida-Progreso road, where his bicycle had a flat tire.
According to reports, a person who passed by the place discovered the lifeless body of the teenager and gave notice to the local authorities through the 9-1-1 emergency line.
A spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Security confirmed the finding of the body of Jose Eduardo Javier de la Cruz, on the west side of the Mérida-Progreso highway.
In addition, local authorities announced that they have already located the suspects of this terrible crime, although they have not determined yet exactly how the seventeen year-old was murdered.
Apparently there are three probable perpetrators of the homicide, who are residents of Fraccionamiento Flamboyanes, in the municipality of Progreso.
According to authorities, either robbery or gang related activities could be the possible motives of the murder.
It was mentioned that young José Eduardo’s body showed signs of burnings, so it is not ruled out that he has been tortured or that the murderer tried to destroy the evidence.
