Merida’s Door54 bistro to close indefinitely March 6

Door54, a fixture on Merida’s expat scene for food and drink, entertainment and art, will close indefinitely starting Monday March 6.

For the past two years the bistro and gallery at Calle 54 and Calle 35 had been a popular spot for expat gatherings and had also been hosting a film series.

Nic Lavroff, Door54’s spokesman, sent this comment to The Yucatan Times providing some background on the bistro’s plans:

“I am sorry to report that Georgina Kemp, our beautiful and gracious hostess at Door54, will be taking an indeterminate leave of absence starting next week.  After two years as the heart and soul of Door54, she deserves a much needed break to unwind and decompress.  I, for one, would like to thank her for all she’s done to make Merida a more vibrant place, and to wish her a speedy return should that be her decision. Consequently, Door54 will be closed from Monday March 6 until further notice.

“Geo’s last day will be this Saturday March 4, so the Disco Night that evening will serve multiple purposes:  A celebration of Door54’s two year anniversary, and a farewell party for Geo and the staff.  I hope you will be able to join us to wish them all the best for the future.”

Regarding the film series he had been coordinating, Lavroff said: “I am actively seeking a new location where we can continue our movie nights with as little downtime as possible (I’m sitting on some great movies that I’m excited about).  If anybody has any suggestions, please let me know and I will check them out.”
