Direct flights from Merida to Dallas and Milan terminated

Merida’s international air connectivity has suffered a setback with the termination of two international direct routes, reportedly due to low demand.

American Airlines has cancelled direct service from Merida to Dallas, Texas, while Blue Panorama has ended direct flights between Merida and Milan, Italy.

Travelers wishing to reach these destinations will now need to connect to flights from Cancun or Mexico City.

The Merida-Dallas flights, which operated five days a week, were launched in March 2016, and flights to Italy began in 2015. Reports in local media blamed lack of promotion for their termination.

Miami and Houston are the only other U.S. cities with direct flights to Mérida’s Manuel Crescencio Rejón International Airport. In Canada, direct service is offered from Toronto to Mérida. Most international travelers still connect through Mexico City or Cancun airports.
