Quintana Roo bus wrecks kill three, injure dozens

PUERTO MORELOS, Q. Roo – A bus accident Friday Jan. 27 along the Cancun/Playa del Carmen highway left two passengers dead and more than two dozen injured.

This was the second time in two days that a highway accident has claimed lives while leaving others injured. The first accident occurred Thursday morning when a bus driver was transporting staff to Vidanta Hotel.

Reports say the 24-year-old driver became distracted and lost control of the bus. The bus tipped over, crushing one female passenger and injuring 19 others, five of them seriously.

The latest highway accident involving an Xcaret Experiences passenger bus occurred Friday morning. According to Puerto Morelos police, a call was received at approximately 8:30 a.m. citing an overturned bus.

Police arrived on scene to find 54 passengers, 21 of whom were transported to various hospitals. Two of those female passengers, a Mexican and Canadian tourist, died.

The Xcaret bus was bound for Playa del Carmen when the accident occurred.
