American charged with Cancun stabbing may be linked to separate murder

CANCUN – An American arrested recently for domestic violence against his female partner is a possible suspect in the murder of an American woman.

Investigators say that the American arrested December 21 in Cancun could be responsible for the 2012 murder of his then-pregnant wife.

His recent arrest has exposed him as a possible fugitive, who remains in a Cancun prison for the crime of domestic violence and malicious injuries after his female partner was taken to hospital with six stab wounds to her body.

The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) reported that he was linked to the US crime after being arrested and processed. The arrest has been reported to the American Consulate.

The incident happened at 4:00 a.m. when concerned neighbors called emergency 911 to report a domestic disturbance following screams coming from an apartment. When police arrived, they found a 24-year-old women with stab wounds.

Arrested was 29-year-old Gilbert N from Phoenix,  Arizona. Reports cite the couple had a argument that led to her being attacked with a utility knife. The woman was found with six stab wounds, three of which were to the neck.

Elements of the Municipal Police detained the man while the woman was taken to the General Hospital.
