Cuban Art Expo: November 2016
Scheduled Events
The 2016 Cuban Art Expo is not a one-night art opening, but a total immersion into Cuban art and culture with scheduled events from Tuesday November 22nd until Saturday November 26th, with additional access to the exhibits until November 29th.
The Expo will be held in the Centro de Artes Visuales, in the Santa Ana neighborhood: Calle 60 #411, between Calle 45 and 47.
The following events are scheduled for the inaugural week:
Tuesday, November 22, 7:00 pm: Sneak preview. Meet the artists, enjoy a Cuba Libre (two, in fact), and enjoy Cuban music by Maydel Garcia. Donation, $120 pesos. Advance tickets available at Door54, Calle 54 and 35, Centro.

Grand Opening
Thursday, November 24:
- 5:00 pm: Film: El extrano caso de Rachel K 1973. Dir. Oscar Valdes
- 8:15 pm: Round Table: Destino Mexico, Plastica Cubana por el Mundo.
- Moderator: Jose Luis Rodriquez de Almas.
- Participants: Grisel Pujala, Leandro Soto, James Bonachea y Marta Maria Perez.
Friday, November 25:
- 5:00 pm: Film Maluala 1979. Dir. Sergio Giral
- 8:15 pm: Poetry reading by Maria Elena Diaz de Villegas, with visual presentation of her life and work.
Saturday, November 26:
- 5:00 pm: Film Baragua, 1985. Dir. Jose Massip
Tuesday November 29:
- 5:00 pm: Film Cercania 2008. Dir. Rolando Diaz
- 8:15 pm: Round Table: Discussion of Cuban Film.
- Moderator: Eugenio Balari
- Participants: Roberto Bravo, Teresita Ordoqui, Jorge Pucheaux, Jose Lufrio
Nine salas and the Atrium at the Centro de Artes Visuales will be set aside for the individual artists to display their work. The salas, numbered 1 through 9 are allocated to the individual artists as follows:
Sala 1: Ernesto Fernandez Valmaseda (“Magua”)

Although he is barely thirty years of age, Ampudia’s photo-realism talents are surprisingly mature. A selection of some of the pieces on display at the Expo:
Sala 3: Michel Castro: Abstract Art
Sala 4: Raul Corrales
Official photographer of the Cuban Revolution, and the only photographer to have one of his images used as the basis for currency. Represented at the Expo by his son.
Sala 5: James Bonachea: Video Installation: Vasos Espirituales
Sala 6: Jose Villa Soberon: Sculptor working in a variety of metals.
