Birding aficionados will be heading to Campeche soon for the MARATHON OF BIRDS CALAKMUL October 21-23.
WHAT IS IT?
The marathon of birds is a 29-hour competition where the team with the highest number of bird species observed is the winner.
WHAT ARE THE MECHANICS?
Form your team with friends, family, coworkers, etc. or contact the Organizing Committee that will integrate a team for you.
On your computer sign-up form you must include a guide specializing in bird watching to correctly identify species and share their knowledge and experience. Ask the organizing committee (firstname.lastname@example.org) for the list of available guides! NOTE: The cost of the guide is not included in the cost of registration for the marathon.
WHEN AND WHERE?
The opening event, explanation of rules and delivery of kits will take place on Friday October 21 at 5:00 pm at Hotel Chicanna Ecovillage in Calakmul, Campeche.
The marathon officially starts on Saturday October 22 at 5:00 am when all teams will go on their observation routes that can include anywhere within the municipality of Calakmul, seeking and identifying the highest number of bird species and writing them down in the official list.
The marathon ends on October 23 at 10:00 am at the same hotel Chicanna Ecovillage in Calakmul, Campeche, where teams must submit their lists of birds to the jury, ending with breakfast closing and awards ceremony.
WHAT IS THE COST OF REGISTRATION?
The cost per person is: $ 250 pesos / 22 dlls for the general public and $ 150 pesos / 12 dlls for Students.
* All team members (including the guide) should cover your registration fee
-Includes: Event Kits (cap and shirt), official list of birds of Campeche, closing breakfast. Not included: lodging, transportation, food, guide.
If you can not attend, you can also participate by sponsoring a team of students or rural communities to have the opportunity to live this great experience.
