Mexican President Peña Nieto receives the Statesman Award 2016

On Monday September 19, Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto received in New York, the Statesman Award 2016, awarded by the Foreign Policy Association.

The award was granted during the World Leadership Forum 2016, organized by this association. The prize was given to Peña Nieto in recognition for the structural changes that helped to stimulate the economic relationships between the United States and Mexico, reports the Mexican government agency Notimex.

This recognition is confered to the heads of state or governments who work on improving international relations.

The organization aims to promote public awareness of US foreign policy and global problems, as well as citizen participation in the formulation of foreign policy.

The Foreign Policy Association, which was founded in 1918, is one of the main public forums in New York City dedicated to foreign policy, which enjoys great national and international credibility and visibility.

Through his Twitter account, President Peña Nieto said he received this distinction “in the name of a country in transformation, whose achievements are the result of the collective effort of all Mexicans,” and he thanked the Foreign Policy Association, for this recognition.
