BOSTON — The government of the southeastern Mexican state of Campeche and the Consulate of Mexico in Boston presented an initiative to strengthen links between the Mexican entity and this northern region of the east coast of the United States.
The initiative “2016: Year of Campeche in New England” seeks to strengthen bilateral ties in economic, tourism, agriculture, health, education, culture and gastronomy sectors, Notimex reported.
In May and June, actions to promote beach tourism were initiated, but also archaeological monuments and ecological experiences, as well as the refined gastronomy of Campeche.
Also initiated were agreements between health institutions and health centers from Campeche, to utilize the research and medical innovations of New England, which many medical technology companies are located.
“The objective is to create an approach with which the highest concentration of health institutions in the United States is considered,” Emilio Rabasa, the General Consul of Mexico in Boston, said while presenting the initiative.
Meanwhile, Alvaro Arceo, health minister of Campeche, said that the state government has already signed a series of memorandums with several hospitals and medical institutions in New England to train doctors and nurses from Campeche.
The training, which will both be face-to-face as and online courses, will benefit 100 doctors and 100 nurses from Campeche.
According to Arceo, the long-term intention is to turn Campeche into a regional center of health services that will attract even patients from across the continent.
