A bloody night for taxi drivers in Cancun

CANCUN — Local authorities and taxi drivers in Cancun are concerned about a possible wave of attacks against cabbies, as two were murdered and a third robbed in a single night this week.

Around midnight Tuesday Sept. 27, a taxi driver was found inside his vehicle lifeless and bearing the signs of stab wounds. The incident occurred in the Supermanzana 74 in Colonia Lombardo Toledano.

Authorities are investigating the case. The Forensic Medical Service (Semefo), was in charge of removing the body.

Around 2 am, police responded to the Supermanzana 25, near Tankah Avenue. Upon arrival, they found a the body of a man in the prone position on the asphalt with the upper extremities to the west and lower to the east, covered with a white-colored sheet.

His physical characteristics are: medium build, approximate height of 1.67 meters, complexion light brown, wavy hair short black color, high forehead, bushy eyebrows, straight wide base nose, large mouth with thick lips, with a mustache. He was wearing a white shirt with taxi drivers’ union logo, blue pants and black boots. The body bore two knife wounds in the right chest and two wounds in the left chest; the taxi driver’s vehicle was parked nearby.

The body was taken to the Forensic Medical Service and the vehicle impounded.

In Region 77, opposite the Oral Courts, a taxi driver was beaten and robbed of his belongings Tuesday night. Police were ordered to respond and to follow up the case.
