Two Americans injured, one fatally, in Cozumel motorbike crash

COZUMEL – A motorbike accident in Cozumel has claimed the life of an American tourist.

Two sisters were speeding along the South Hotel Zone on a rented motorcycle when the driver lost control and veered into a deep drainage culvert.

The accident occurred on Tuesday morning Aug. 23 in the vicinity of the Paradise Hotel in Cozumel when the red moto they were driving suddenly veered off the road and into a deep culvert. The driver, 36-year-old Idria Gorf, and her 26-year-old sister, Rebecca Gorf, were taken to hospital, where Idria Gorf died from her injuries.

Rebecca Gorf remained in hospital late this week with multiple fractures. The pair arrived in Cozumel on Tuesday via a Carnival Paradise cruise ship.
