Foreign minister: Challenges of Mexico and US can be solved only together

MEXICO CITY — The shared challenges between Mexico and the United States “can only be solved if we do it together,” the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE, for its acronym in Spanish), Claudia Ruiz Massieu said.

During a premium chair of the School of Global Studies under the Anahuac University, the official stressed that the Foreign Ministry has deployed a long term comprehensive strategy that transcends the electoral situation in the northern neighbor country, Notimex reported.

She added that the bilateral relationship is strong “because it does not depend on one person, it is strong because it not only depends on governments, it is strong because it depends on the societies of both countries and their daily work together.”

In this regard, the head of Mexican diplomacy told the university that “we must build permanent bridges of knowledge, understanding and confidence” with the United States and the rest of the world.

The head of the Foreign Ministry explained that Mexico has a role and specific weight in the world that requires understanding to conduct a foreign policy, because “the ability of a country to make its values  and principles impact on the global agenda, and defend their interests in the world, depends heavily on its internal strengths.”

She stressed that the Mexican government has the intentions to create a foreign policy with social vision, that Mexican diplomacy “seeks to transform, improve and have an impact on Mexicans’ lives, giving tangible solutions to concrete problems”.
